The National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP), in partnership with the AFP Office for Strategic Studies and Strategy Management (AFP-OSSSM), held the 21st Heneral Luna Colloquium with the theme “Understanding China’s Disinformation Campaigns in the Philippines: Factors, Influences and Countermeasures”, on 5 December 2023 via Cisco WebEx.
The colloquium featured Rear Admiral Rommel Jude Ong PN (Ret) and Coast Guard Commodore Jay Tarriela as speakers, with Assistant Director General Jonathan Malaya from the National Security Council and Mr Christian Esguerra from the University of Santo Tomas as reactors. The presentations and open forum delved deep into understanding why China is insistent in controlling information, why China needs to achieve its goals through these means, and where these operations fit into the larger Chinese strategy.
In his closing remarks, NDCP Executive Vice President Mr Aldrin C Cuña MNSA shared with the participants that they were leaving the colloquium armed with a renewed commitment towards the truth, the desirable value of being actively involved in current burning issues, and a sense of civic duty to defend the democratic way of life
The Heneral Luna Colloquium Series provides a platform for free academic discussion of issues affecting the country’s national security.
