Ambassador of Malaysia to the Philippines Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino delivered a lecture for the Area Security Studies module of the Master in National Security Administration Regular (MNSA) program on 29 January 2024, at the NDCP Honor Hall, Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
Ambassador Castelino, together with the Deputy Head of Mission, Mr Mohd Fareed Bin Zakaria, and Defense Attaché Col Ahmad Jafri Bin Ahmad Zuliyadai, MNSA, were received by the College’s officials and faculty led by the NDCP President, LtGen Ferdinand M Cartujano PAF (Ret).
The lecture centered on Malaysia as a case study for the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Discussions covered the domestic political and socio-economic landscape of Malaysia, as well as its experience in dealing with strategic competition between great powers in the Indo-Pacific. Ambassador Castelo also emphasized the importance of ASEAN centrality in managing evolving common security issues and challenges.
The said MNSA module draws from multidisciplinary knowledge and perspectives to understand how countries in the regions of Asia, Africa, Oceania, and Latin America navigate contemporary defense and security challenges against the backdrop of their domestic politics, economy, and socio-cultural dynamics, and reflect them on the Philippine experience.
